Most brands don’t need more fonts, colours or ideas. They need fewer, used with conviction.
The case for one
Every new typeface is a new voice. Add enough of them and a brand stops speaking and starts mumbling. We start almost every identity with a single family and a strict scale.
What you gain
Constraints make decisions faster and systems easier to maintain. A single typeface forces hierarchy to come from size, weight and space — which is where it should come from anyway.
It is not a rule. It is a starting point we only abandon when the work asks us to.
